  • This Paper undertakes.to exqmine the image of the Jew in Samih al-Qasim's novel, The Last Picture in the Album. Part of the examination is a highlighting of the nature of Jewish-Jewish and Jewish-Arab relations. For in the context of Jewish-Jewish relations, the novel demonstrates the inten,stty of the conflict between Oriental Jews {Sephardim and accidental ones ( Aschkenazi) and how each side sees the other. The novel also shows the dominance of the military elite in Israeli society and their snobbish attitude to Jews who do not serve in the military machine.
