The article describes the breakdown of causes of admission for all patients, aged one month to 14 years, admitted to the Pediatric Department in Makassed Hospital between 1986 and 1992. The total number of admissions is 8,029 and the total number of patients is 6,635. Sixty-six percent of all admissions are males and sixty-four percent are under 3 years of age. Leading causes of admission are respiratory tract diseases, central nervous system diseases, GI tract diseases and accidents
