The article documents a retrospective study of the management of acute periorbital swelling in children referred to the emergency room at Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem between 1986-1992. The aim of the study was to evaluate the protocol used in the management of these cases. The protocol uses a number of certain criteria to define high risk cases. The results of the study indicate that the protocol is practical and safe. A number of adjustments to the protocol are suggested.
