Resource Significant Cost and Time Models for Building Projectshttp://blogs.najah.edu/staff/nabil-dmaidi/article/Resource-Significant-and-Cost-and-Time-ModelsPublished ArticlesCost and time models have been developed for road and bridge projects using resource significance analysis which is in turn based on the 8020 rule The work packages in these models are designed to relate to site operations They serve as the basis for measurement estimating planning valuation and control in civil engineering projects For defined categories of work a standard set of work packages have been developed which consistently contribute about 90 of a projects resource costs and hours The resource significant cost and time models for bridges and roads predict cost to an accuracy of 4 Cv and 3 Cv respectively The resource hours for a project can be predicted to an accuracy of 6 Cv for bridges and 3 Cv for roads The bridge model contains 26 work packages and the road model contains 22 work packages Coarser models have also been developed for situations where the road or bridge is only part of an overall project with only a small loss of accuracy

Construction sites especially in third world countries often constitute a source of risk to workers health and safety Accidents on construction sites can be greatly reduced or prevented if safety codes and regulations are honored
This study aimed at investigating the extent to which such codes are implemented on construction sites in Nablus The findings of the study show while safety measures are usually taken with heavy machinery eg cranes excavators and tools there is a serious lack of health facilities and of equipment needed for personal safety

Simplified Cost Models for Building Constructionhttp://blogs.najah.edu/staff/nabil-dmaidi/article/Simplified-Cost-Models-for-Building-ConstructionPublished ArticlesIn this paper simple cost models that contain small number of items that will be used for estimating the costs of the contracts were derived Twenty-eight contracts that contain large number of items were used in this study for the development of these models Cost significant philosophy was used as an approach to develop the models This study has shown that about 80 of the total cost of the project are contained within 20 of the items these items are called cost significant items and each item has a value greater or equal to the mean item value These models can be used only for multi-story residential buildings The developed construction cost model contains about 25 of the items while the developed finishing cost model contains about 23 of the items The expected accuracy for both cost models is within 5 and the achieved accuracy is within 7

Due to the frequent occurrence of accidents in the construction work sites in Palestine the issue of health and safety measures is becoming increasingly an urgent matter This research was conducted to investigate the readiness of the construction workers to use personal protection equipment in the construction sites in the city of Nablus This was done through the distribution of a questionnaire collecting data and analyzing it The results then were related to different variables like type of work years of experience and the duration of work The study revealed that the majority of workers showed readiness to use protection equipment especially helmets and safety footwear The need for other protection equipment depends on the type of work and the degree of danger The study also revealed no difference in the degree of willingness to use such equipment between the workers of form-work of the masons or the assistant workers with relation to the three above mentioned variables
